TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Teaching is rooted in relationship. I approach lessons with the belief that I learn just as much from my students as they do from me, and that the enjoyment of the process is shared. Students learn best when they feel supported, understood, and engaged.

Musical growth is inseparable from the person making the music. Our experiences, environments, and ways of seeing the world shape how we play and listen. Because of this, lessons go beyond skill-building and focus on developing confidence, awareness, and ownership of one’s musical voice.

Goal-setting is practical and student-centered. I work with students to set clear, achievable goals, support self-motivation, and help them approach the instrument with curiosity and excitement. Progress is meant to feel attainable and sustaining over time.

Mistakes are welcome. They offer valuable information and serve as essential guides for progress. When experimentation and recovery are part of the process, students build confidence under pressure in performance.

Technique and listening develop side by side. Solid technique forms the foundation for playing, while artistry grows through releasing into a sensitive ear. Careful listening and responding to sound in real time shape the music.

While my primary focus is piano, my teaching is shaped by experience across disciplines, including voice, violin, percussion, and composition. I like to think outside the box and try new things. Lessons often expand to reflect a student’s interests, leaving room for exploration and creative direction.

I welcome students of all ages and experience levels, offering instruction tailored to the individual. Lessons are available both in person and online.
